House rent allowance claim

09 August 2012 How can one claim hra…
Say one employee paying 10000 rs. Per month rent in metro city.
But not receiving any bill from houseowner.he will not give any bill/receipt.
Now to claim u/s 10(13a), employer asking for supporting bill.
And employer therefore deducting higher tds amount.
Now what should employee do?

09 August 2012 Employee should make a receipt and get it signed by his landlord, and deposit the xerox copies of the same to employer.

ok, my question is whether AO can check the house rent paid receipts..

09 August 2012 No any other option, your employer is under an obligation to collect proof of rent paid. It is very unlikely that A.O will check those receipts..

then is there any issue after that with AO.
