Gstr-4 amendment

This query is : Resolved

15 July 2018 Sir, I want to revise the entire FY 2017-18 quarterly turnover, the GSTR-4 have already been filed for the said quarters. I tried revising the same in GSTR-4 offline tool for Apr-Jun 2018 Qtr. The below are the problems:
1. Only any 1 of the previous qtrs cells are available
2. Error or previous data not found is being shown when I am filing the json file.

Please help.

16 July 2018 GSTR-4 cannot be revised after filing on the GSTN Portal. Any mistake in the return can be revised in the next month’s return only. It means that, if a mistake is made in the GSTR-4 filed for the January to March quarter, the rectification for the same can be made only when filing the next quarter’s GSTR-4.

16 July 2018 Sir I know the same.
1 My query is in GSTR-4 for the next qtr I am not being able to alter more than 1 previous qtrs.
2 When I upload the json file an error "previous data not found" is shown.

Thanks in anticipation

27 July 2024 To address the issues you're encountering with GSTR-4 for FY 2017-18, particularly the inability to amend previous quarters and the error "previous data not found," here are some steps and clarifications:

### **1. Revising Previous Quarters in GSTR-4**

GSTR-4 is a return for taxpayers registered under the Composition Scheme. Amendments to previous quarters are sometimes required to correct mistakes or update data.

#### **Issue 1: Only 1 Previous Quarter is Available for Amendment**

- **Limitations in the Tool:** The GSTR-4 offline tool often allows corrections or updates for only one previous quarter per filing period. This limitation can be due to tool constraints or system design.

- **Resolution:** If you need to amend more than one previous quarter, you should:
- **File Amendments Sequentially:** Amend the data for one quarter, file the return, then proceed to amend the next quarter if the system allows.
- **Consult the Helpdesk:** If the tool does not support multiple corrections, contact the GST helpdesk for guidance or request an escalation to resolve the issue.

#### **Issue 2: Error - "Previous Data Not Found"**

- **Possible Causes:**
- **Data Synchronization Issues:** This error often indicates that the system cannot locate the data for the specified period, possibly due to synchronization or data upload issues.
- **Incorrect File Structure:** The JSON file you are trying to upload might be improperly formatted or missing required fields.

- **Resolution:**
- **Verify File Format:** Ensure that the JSON file adheres to the format prescribed by the GST portal. Use the latest offline tool version for generating the JSON file.
- **Check Previous Data:** Make sure that the previous quarters' data was properly filed and reflected in the GST system. Verify if there are any discrepancies or missing data.
- **Contact Support:** If you still encounter issues, contact the GST helpdesk or support for assistance. Provide them with specific details about the error and the JSON file.

### **Additional Steps**

1. **Regularly Check for Updates:** Ensure you are using the latest version of the GSTR-4 offline tool and that there are no known issues or updates affecting the filing process.

2. **Keep Records:** Maintain detailed records of the errors and your attempts to correct them. This documentation will be useful if you need to escalate the issue to GST authorities or seek professional advice.

3. **Consult a Tax Professional:** If you face persistent issues, consider consulting a GST practitioner or tax consultant who can provide specific advice and assistance based on your situation.

4. **Follow Official Guidelines:** Refer to the official GST guidelines and notifications related to amendments and corrections for Composition Scheme returns.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the issues with amending your GSTR-4 filings and resolve the "previous data not found" error.
