Goal Seek is part of a suite of commands sometimes called what-if analysis tools. When you know the desired result of a single formula but not the input value the formula needs to determine the result, you can use the Goal Seek feature available by clicking Goal Seek on the Tools menu. When goal seeking, Microsoft Excel varies the value in one specific cell until a formula that's dependent on that cell returns the result you want.
For example, you have the formula in excel say B4 = sum(B2+B3), now the result you want is say Rs.500 in cell B4, then click on goal seek option from your tools menu and set this B4 as goal seek cell and enter Rs.500 in to value space and finally, select one cell that is covered in your formula that you want to change according to your desired result, in this e.g. you can choose either B2 or B3. And click ok, you will get the desired result of Rs.500 in cell B4 by corresponding change in value of the cell that you chosen to change.
