FILING NIL INCOME TAX RETURN

This query is : Resolved

21 November 2019 Hi,

I have been filing ITR 1 till FY 2017-18. I have resigned and have not earned any income/salary during FY 2018-19. Is it mandatory to file NIL return or FY 2018-19. I have received communication from IT dept for not filing returns for FY 2018-19. What should I do. If I have to file NIL return which ITR should I use?

21 November 2019 If income return is filed in the previous year, the department will automatically asked to file return for the next year also. Hence file NIL return for the FY 2018-19 even though your are not in employment. If you have no other income like business, professional / technical services, income from house property, file ITR 1 like last year showing income from salary as nil and income from other sources like interest as per actual shown in bank/ post office etc account

21 November 2019 No need to file return if no income (no taxable income). If dept issued notice then just reply "No Taxable Income". It's enough.

21 November 2019 IF YOU ARE BELOW FROM THE EXEMPTION LIMIT YOU DO NOT NEED TO FILE INCOME TAX RETURN.
