02 August 2011 what are pledged/encumbered and non encumbered shares. Why are they reported in the balance sheet.

23 August 2011 The shares are pledged means certain amount or loan has been taken by the holder
and the shares have been pledged as security.

To report secured or unsecured loans, and if secured then against which asset the secured loan is taken. This is shown according to the reporting requirements prescribed for Schedule VI i.e. Balance Sheet under the Companies Act.
