Calculation of capital gains on shares

29 April 2012 Of the following charges, which should be considered for calculating LTCG:

Purchase - 100 shares @ Rs.448/- = Rs.44800/-
Add : Brokerage Rs.201.60 + Service Tax Rs.20.76 + STT Rs.56/-. Net Value = Rs.44800/- + Total Charges Rs.278.36 = Rs. 45078.36

Sale - 100 shares @ Rs.455/- = Rs.45500/-.
Less: Brokerage Rs.204.75 - Service Tax Rs.21.09 - STT Rs.56.46. Net Value = Rs.45500/- minus Total Charges Rs.282.31 = Rs. 45217.69.

30 April 2012 LTCG WILL BE CALCULATED ON 45217-45078

30 April 2012 All the expenses would be considered when buying and selling for capital gains.


08 May 2012 Both the experts are correct and I agree with them. LTCG depends on your holding period if it is less than 1 year then it is STCG and attracts 15%+3% Tax if it more than 1 year then the LTCG is exempted
