CA

This query is : Resolved

15 June 2010 I am presently working as Assistant Manager in State Bank of India. I have 12years work experience. Now, I want to take a break from my Job and want to study CA course. My age is 35 at present. By the time I complete CA my age will be 40. What will be the job opportunities for me at the age of 40? Is it worthwhile doing a CA at this age? Will my age be a concern?

15 June 2010 Firstly, for doing CA age is not a limit.
Regarding job opportunities, if you compare your life with CA and Without CA, then certainly there will be more job opportunities and scope after doing CA. Also, you can start your own practice after doing CA. But certainly, be ready for the hard work.
Also consider that you have to quit your job, for pursuing articleship, which i think will not be aproblem for you and you said that you wnat to take a break from your job.

15 June 2010 I think its not feasible to pursue CA now... I am not discouraging you to pursue CA...
But before taking decision please think y u want to do CA now... The opportunity cost of Doing CA is much at this age... If your goal is to get better job, i dont think Companies will prefere fresh CAs at this age which is very hard fact. You have to start afresh in your career and chances of getting middle management or Top management position is not so easy.
Apart from that you can pursue ICWA where you need not to quit your job and can do the professional course which is equalent to CA now a days... You can try for CFA as well.. All the best

16 June 2010 Mr.Rajesh, thanks for your suggestion. CWA+CIMA was also going on my mind. But the thing is that where's the time to study and give exams. These courses need a lot of hard work apart from Guidance from Coaching classes. I cannot do on my own. That's the reason why I wanted to take a break, only if the age is not a barrier. I heard many of them do their CA final after a long gap. Also 50% of the candidates who sit for CA final exam are such candidates, their ages between 40 and 50. I am very ambitious and I am ready to put all the hardwork required for this course and looking at the future prospects of this qualification, I am thinking of it.

16 June 2010 Dear Ramana Prasad... I really appreciate your ambition to become CA... But if you want to quite the job and do CA then back up with some other course as well.. Like CMA and CIMA... All the best

17 June 2010 Are there any exemptions for CA candidates in CIMA. Please let me know.

17 June 2010 In CIMA there is no exemption for CA...However, CIMA has an MOU with ICWAI, in which you can get exemption in CWA but NOT for CA.
