Arrear demand notice

This query is : Resolved

23 October 2011 For the past 3 years, I have paid all the taxes correctly and used e-filing . But, yesterday I got a mail from CPCC regarding "Arrear Demand".

The demand was for the AY 2007-08 (Rs.2,378) and AY 2008-09 (Rs.10,687). I checked the Form26AS and I could see the "Tax Paid" details for both those years.

1. How to get more detail about this?
2. Current AO is mentioned as "JCIT(P) RANGE-12, HYD". Now that I have moved to Bangalore, can't I communicate AO in Bangalore?

Please help how to resolve this.

25 October 2011 You can contact the no 0124-2438000
of Ayakar Sampark Kendra for getting more details.

I think the demand has arisen due to any mistake you have made in filing ITRs of AY 2007-08 and AY 2008-09. Since Form 26AS shows the said demands under tax paid, it might be adjusted from any refunds due to you. You can verify the same by looking into any subsequent years Form 26AS probable AY 2011-12 or AY 2012-13. The same may be seen under details of paid Refund and the mode of payment can be seen as 'paper'.

25 October 2011 Hi Deepak,

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry, I did not get clearly.

What I meant was, In Form26AS, all the taxes I have paid is reflecting for all the years.

So, I am confused how this due was calculated.

26 October 2011 Hi,
Even though you have correctly calculated the tax and paid the same, there might be some mistake while filing the return. for eg, mistake while showing the details of donation u/s 80G, carried forward losses etc. While preocessing the return, the CPC will not consider such claims if the same is not filled properly in all the required fields in the ITR.
I think you have to contact the CPC for getting more details. Some times they say that the file is transferred to the jurisdictional assessing officer. Then you have to contact your AO. Almost a similar case happened to us and upon contacting the AO, It is understood that there was some mistake in our return and also there was some mistake in IT dept database against our Company's assessment. Upon clarifying the same the AO have released our demands.

26 October 2011 Hi Deepak,
Thanks for the reply. Happy Diwali.

How to contact the AO? Can I write a mail or written letter?

Or, do I need to visit in person. Because, right now, I am in Bangalore and my current AO in Hyderabad?
