About Deduction of House Rent

22 November 2008 Plz. anybody answer the following:-

1)If the House Rent is being paid out of one's own pocket and he is not getting any HRA from the employer can it be shown as deduction from his salary income ?
2)For this purpose is the Rent Agreement with the Land Lord is required?

22 November 2008 Deduction on account of rent paid is allowed as a deduction from the tax payable
The Act stipulate proper supporting so not only the agreement but also evidence of payment of rent also be needed.

22 November 2008 Sec 80GG - Rent paid by him but is not in receipt of HRA.

Least of the following :

a) Rent paid less 10% of adjusted total income
b) Rs. 2,000/- pm
c) 25% of adjusted Total income.
