From 26AS is a statement issued by Income tax department under the provisions of Section 203AA and second provision to Section 206C (5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and Rule 31AB of Income Tax Rules, 1962
It carries details of all the taxes paid y the assesssee, tax deducted from payments made to the assessee, Tax deducted from sale of property under 194-IA, tax collected at source, tax refunds, tax deducted against payments made to assessee for property sold by asseessee, AIR transactions and TDS defaults.

While what is mentioned by Nikhil is correct i dont agree with one point. I have never seen TDS defaults in form 26AS. These can be checked only on traces website by logging in as tds deductor.

To be more specific , if u see all parts of 26AS form it contains following details for the assesses :- 1. TDS at source: Any TDS deducted from banks on your transactions towards interest of fixed deposits . 2. TDS at source for 15G/15H 3. TDS on property transactions under section 194IA 4.Tax collctect at source 5. Tax paid - Any advnace tax paid by assesses. 6. Refund details- Refund of tax after assessement by IT deptt. 7. AIR Transactions.
