The Local Self Government (LSG) department has constituted a five-member committee to make tax collection in urban local bodies more user-friendly, aiming to boost tax revenue. The committee, formed under an order issued by LSG Director Kumar Pal Gautam, will simplify the existing tax collection processes and has been given 15 days to submit its report.
The committee will review tax collection systems used by urban local bodies in other states, focusing on best practices that could be implemented in Rajasthan. The members include Financial Advisor Mahendra Mohan, JMC Greater Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Janardan Sharma, State Nodal Officer (Finance Commission) Kamal Deep Sharma, Assistant Legal Advisor Somdatta Khandappa, and Advisor Paras Jain.
The key sources of revenue for these bodies, such as urban development (UD) tax, advertisement fees, fire NOC fees, building plan approval fees, and mobile tower fees, will be studied. The goal is to make the tax payment process simpler and more accessible to encourage compliance. The committee will explore options like geo-tagging of properties and online tax payment systems to ease the taxpayer's burden.
Additionally, the government has formed another committee to suggest improvements for making LSG's online and offline services more time-bound and accessible, with a focus on transitioning more services online. A separate committee will also provide recommendations on reducing the pendency of court cases and preventing future legal disputes.
These initiatives reflect the government's commitment to modernizing tax collection and improving service delivery in urban local bodies.
