Central tax authorities have intensified efforts to combat Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion in Gujarat, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealing significant enforcement actions in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. From FY 2021-22 to FY 2024-25 (up to October 31, 2024), 12,803 cases of GST evasion were booked, and 101 individuals were arrested under Section 69 of the CGST Act, 2017.

  • 2022-23: ₹18.08 lakh crore (Refunds: ₹2.20 lakh crore).
  • 2021-22: ₹14.83 lakh crore (Refunds: ₹1.83 lakh crore).
  • 2020-21: ₹11.37 lakh crore (Refunds: ₹1.25 lakh crore).

In the current fiscal year (April-October 2024), gross GST collections stand at ₹12.74 lakh crore, with refunds of ₹1.47 lakh crore.
