CBIC Notifies Prohibiting Consolidated Invoices for Supplies Under RCM

Last updated: 11 October 2024

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has introduced a significant update under the Central Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Rules, 2024, which restricts the issuance of consolidated invoices for supplies covered under the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM). According to the notification, registered taxpayers are now required to issue individual invoices for each supply covered under RCM instead of issuing a consolidated invoice for multiple supplies.

CBIC Notifies Prohibiting Consolidated Invoices for Supplies Under RCM

Key Highlights

  1. Individual Invoices: Taxpayers must issue separate invoices for each RCM supply, ensuring better traceability and compliance.
  2. Compliance Update: This measure is aimed at enhancing transparency in the taxation process and reducing instances of tax evasion under the reverse charge mechanism.

The prohibition of consolidated invoices for RCM supplies strengthens the GST framework, ensuring that each transaction is properly documented. Businesses should update their invoicing systems to comply with this new requirement, which will come into effect from November 1, 2024.

This change reflects CBIC's continuous efforts to streamline compliance and improve transparency in the Indian GST system. Taxpayers are encouraged to review their current practices and make necessary adjustments to avoid penalties or disputes with tax authorities.
