My friend has salon business in Mohali (Punjab). He is migrated to gst.He filed nil return for July,August and September as no business was done. Now he wants to continue his business but wants to cancel gst registration as the option is available now.
Whether he can do so or authority thinks that he is doing fraudulent activity by cancelling registration after filing late returns
Gst compliance proves burden to him
and his turnover below 20 LACS RS.
please guide, he is in big problem!

no problem, he can cancel the gst registration since turnover is less than 20 lakhs

same issue i have cancelled the regn n cancelation also confirmed by GSTIN . now problem is that the gst returns not submitted for jul Aug sep. i try to login but login option closed. what has to done further ji

sir means there is no fear of imposing penalty for nil return and I can cancel registration without closing business

You can cancel your registration without any fear if you dont issue any invoice.....
