where to do articleship

Hi to all the members!

I have cleared my pe ii in Nov,2005 with 61% and my CCT will be completed by May, 2006.

Write now I am working in a Chartered Accountant Firm but I won't to know Names and Address of some Corporate/Big CA Firms to do my articleship.

Also please suggest me some future courses like SAP till my articlesip is completed.

I m deepak kumar currently doing articleship in one of the small sized chartered accountant firm in New delhi.

What I have observed during my one and half year training might be very useful to you. I observed smaller the firm you joined lotter will be opportunities to learn quickly and yourself.

But before joining, you have to confirm whether there is sufficient work that cope with your qualification.

As far as my firm is concenred, there is lots of Bank audits (concurrent, Central statutory), cag audit, private companies, tax audit and there is also outsouring work.

The main demerit of joing Big/Medium sized firm you might face that is you might not get independent charge of work as compared to small sized firm.

But as regard the stipend, this is quit low as compared to big/medium sized firm.

Ranking of firms(as per Business World and as generally accepted everywhere) in Statutory Audits is:            

1st  -Delloite+AF Fergusons(as they stand merged now)
2nd  - E&Y
3rd  - PWC
4th  - KPMG
5th  -  NM Raiji
6th  -  This is not clear,as on national level,Lodha existed due to Birlas ,but they dont have them now.
             All other firms(even MNCs like Grant Thornton etc) have just one or two big clients and rest are small clients.

      If you talk of Mergers & Acquisitions ,then NM Raiji is No.1 ,even ahead of Big 4s.

     If u talk of internal audits ,SNB is ahead of big 4s.

I agree with Rahul.
       People say the firms like TR Chaddha, JC Bhalla ,SN Dhawan etc are good,but these dont understand that they exist only at their state level and they just cant stand up when compared with big firms at national level(i.e firms which Rahul has given).
                These firms are not even capable of being compared with the Rahul biggies.these survive just coz of some internal audits got due to relations.
                    The real thing is Statutory Audit as that is got only by credibility and reputation of partners.

Hi Kavitha

Better you may opt for CPA(Certified Public Accountant, in short a CA at USA), CISA, NSE certification modules, etc.,

But at the same time don't leave out our CA Final.

I am also an Articled clerk in chennai. I have passed my PE 2 in Nov.2005.

hi all. once upon a time i was asking the same question...but out of experience i am sayin this..
guys..pls pls dont worry about the firm is big or small, get into anyone first..you can make a small audit firm a bigger one with your creative skills, it is surely an opportunity to churn ur life. in big firms you follow a standard check lists & guidance only, but in medium firms u feel sense of independece of what u do with easy contact with the partner of firm.
where ever you are, just think on your own, learn the skills of stat,tax audits etc..know all the provisions..think like you are one of the partner of firm, make it a happy audit firm.
Big or small you must think everythin BIG, learn in a BIG way, help the smaller.

I am Ahmedabad based Chartered Accountant and I have recently cleared my C.A. Final in Nov'05 Exam.

According to me, You have to take following points into account for selection of C.A. firm for your articleship :-

1. Start articleship if possible at a firm which is MEDIUM level at which there are independent works to do.

2. If possible, select the firm of your relative who is a C.A. sothat he / she will assign you the work according to your interest and skills.

3. Try to see that the firm has various types of work in the fields of Accounts, Audit, Taxation, Company Law Matters etc.

4. Try to see the regularity of the firm in case of the work.

So, you should try to get MEDIUM SIZED FIRM so that you can get variety of work.

After Graduation, try for M.Com. or any professional course like ICWA etc.

i was amazed to know the alumni of NM Raiji. they have just the best.they have the best of corporate clients too.its really tough to get into it too.have friends who were applying there ,but couldnt get,they were having so many waiting for articlrships.

i too agree with deepak kumar. what matters most is how time u can devote for serious studies. if u join a big firm. u wont get enough time 4 study.wat i suggest is join a small or medium firm first. clear your final in the FIRST ATTEMPT.then join a big firm like delloite ,kpmg etc....... to get maximum xposure...... then r u d best........
