i m having the stamped bill.................. in which he calculated and mantioned tha rate n amount of VAT specifically.

In many states special VAT rates were introduced @ 1% over and above the normal benchmark rates,hence the restaurant is dcharging correct rate...

For which State are you talking about. In Maharashtra, VAT is charged @ 12.5% or 5%.
Please mention for which state.

google it,VAT rate increased by 1 pc.. and u will see the results. And for ur confusion I know this for the reason that we are taught 12.5% as suggested by the white paper on VAT . The 1pc increase is brought up by change in respective state VAT laws and as devender said some states still have old rates..

IN WB some of the products are 13.5%
In AP some of the products attract VAT of 14.5%
