A meeting is a place used for exchange of ideas and portrays your ability and skills to show your strength and talent.

But there are certain pre conditions which are important for a successful and impressive meeting. The aim of this write up is to help you handle certain blunders that could leave you embarrassed.

Switch off cell phone

This is the most common mistake which can adversely affect your reputation and it is essential to pay heed to this issue. If the phone rings in between the meeting then your professionalism becomes questionable. The last thing you would want is to draw unreasonable attention and appear to be penitent about it. It would be best to either switch off the cell phone or keep it in silent mode while entering the meeting.

Documents and Laptop

As the maxim goes, “It is better to safe that be sorry”. When one volunteers for such meeting then it is pivotal to be prepared for them. Thus, you must make sure that all the pertinent presentations and documents are at the desktop. You should also not squander time fishing information. If the way of working proves to be sloppy, you might miss out on a possible promotion.

Sleep Well the night before

The above statement may be a hyperbole, but one cannot discount the fact that turning up late for a meeting is suicidal. It will relegate all your efforts. All your praiseworthy work will be taken with a pinch of salt. So it is critical to leave home well in advance to avoid the tag of a latecomer.

This is one of the most overlooked aspects of a meeting. You must acknowledge that no matter how intelligent you may be, if you speak out of turn or remonstrate without any justifiable cause, then your career may be heading in the wrong direction. It is vital to realize that, in an effort to prove the point you cannot be invective or condescending. A notepad to pen down the Minutes of the Meeting (MOM) is recommended. This will help in perceiving the main agenda of the meeting.

Be Assertive

Last but not the least, it is critical to leave a mark of oneself in the meeting. The objective of the meeting is to reach a resolution. You need to be assertive to make your presence count. You simply cannot afford to be diffident at such a crucial platform. You need to make the most out of the meeting as it would help determine your future role with the company.
