I agree with you vivek, the scope and level of student passing out CA is deteriorating day by day infect i m working in an leading Mfg Co, where there is huge demands for ICWA`s and with recent changes made in the ICWA syllabus they are having upper edge over CA.
Sorry to say, the IPCC Syllabus is too easy compare to Inter ICWA and i am having strong feeling over a period of time they will easily overtake CA in all areas

i dont agree with the fact that cwa is better than ca ...
ca'z have always been dominatng due to the powers they hold ...
cwa can only work in the costing field bt ca'z have the power to works in all fields
ca'z can even do the work of cs n cwa ...

yeah maybe in the manufacturing industry cost accountants have an upper hand. But that is not the only field CAs can work in. And an Indian Chartered Accountant's "scope" is not limited within India only.
From what i have gathered CS and CWA are add-ons to CA qualification. of course there is value addition. company secretaries are in no position to comment about CWAs elbowing out CAs. Even companies who are required to appoint CS prefer a CA with CS, because its not worth paying just for CS in too many cases.
and whats the use in comparing just the first levels.Compare as a whole if you want to.
I agree that ICAI needs to revamp the course. But CA course is to stay on top.
ps: i'm doing CS and CWA too

There is no comparison at all between CA and CWA.
I'm a qualified CA and appearing for CWA Final in next attempt.
Based on my personal experience, CWA is nothing as compared to CA.
In fact, one should form an opinion only after he has tasted both... :)

.
Coaching classes misguide them that passing is more important than the training; hence many students emphasis more on that. This tendency is due to attitude till Standard XII when more of the students depend themselves on tuition classes.

SURAT is known as highly "producing" Chartered Accountants in Gujarat.
.
But, one would shock to know that :
.
More than 500 recently qualified chartered accountants ( i.e. approx 70% of such CAs) are working at Rs.8000-12,000/- a month.
.
Many of others are still unemployed !
.
Why ?
.
Because most of the students preferred TUITIONS than PRACTICAL TRAINING OF CA ARTICLESHIP.
.
A ranker in CA Final was selected in big fours in campus, was rejected on the second day of his service when he could not verify BANK RECONCILIATION STATEMENT !
.
( INDUSTRY AND PROFESSIONALS CAN'T AFFORD WHITE ELEPHANTS ).
.
At the time of counseling; these CAs were MISGUIDED by the COACHING CLASSES that TUITION is more important than PRACTICAL TRAINING.
.
( Students easily accept it because they are habitual to think it correct till Standard XII ).
.
Still the same attitude is PREVALENT among STUDENTS
.
and
.
no doubt they will BEAR THE BAD EFFECTS THEREOF
.
IN FUTURE
.
FOR LIFE !

Dear sir,
I Respect your view......
but i am totally disagree with above statement(My view)
Reasons:
1.Articleship is not the reason of underemployment/unemployment. the main reason behind No. of qualified chartered accountants passed in last 3-4 attempts and bad market situation.
2.as per statement ca are unemployed/underemployed because of no articleship...now question arise how this sudden change came in market that students of present time dont do training
3.my view is that around 60-70% candidate do training....after that they are not getting jobs
4.Sorry, but its true that our senior members are taking undue benefits of situation by hiring them at 12-15k with cop
5.And think about the quality of training from mnc/industries point of view...only candidate of top 100 firms of india get proper training from employer, rest are just work as helper for senior member(only beneficial for practise)
6.Our senior members do very much for election, why they want to come into council.....is it for personal benefits....or for betterment of profession(and why they donot do that much for placement of members as mba college do)
7.If someone are not getting a single call than how can employer think that he/she had did articleship or not.
8.why icai advertise that no ca are unemployed and avg. salary of ca is 7.1 lacks
9.A ranker in CA Final was selected in big fours in campus, was rejected on the second day of his service when he could not verify BANK RECONCILIATION STATEMENT ! This example may be fake or vague;
because in big 4 no one get the work in second day of service as brs(or may be this eg. is given for justify the view)
10.yes, most of students dont take training seriously...but how much our member give them proper training..its also very big question...??
11.Yes coaching institute dont gave them proper logics...but its also due to fault of icai bec they always repeats same questions by only changing names and very bad quality of modules.
My personal suggestion:
1.articleship shoul be compulsory into industry at least for 18 months.
2.Strict guide lines shound be there for dummy students(strict punishment to member and student)
3.only big firms are alowed for training(in which 5 or more are members)(yes, not beneficial for proprietor or for small firm, but for betterment of profession is needed)
4.Quality of modules should be changed by authorising any writer books for eg. ca final law: munish bhandari..and prper updates of book should be available online
5.Proper facility should be given for placement of members by adopting mba college policy
6.Member should not allowed to give tutions
7.Non-Repeation of question in exams
8.The level of gmcs and itt training should be improved
9.Articleship should not be allowed by family member of students
10.Articleship facility may be provided through ICAI...Etc
Above are my personal view, if someone hearted than
a very big sorry

Please Pardon My Language If It Hurts Your Feeling BUT In My Opinion There Was , Is & Will always be A Difference Betwwen CA & CWA(Now Name Changed To CA i.e Cost Accountant).
I Agree With U That CWA May Save Time As U Can Go For Finals immediately After Intermediate But There Is Far Any Comparison Between CA & CWA.
Also I Would Like To Inform You Dear Vivek That The Latest Fee Structure Of CWA Is Much More Than CA. Hence In Terms Of Money CA Course Is Far More Economical Than CWA.
Having Respects For Your Feeling That "There Is No Difference B/W CA & CWA", I'd Like To Advice U That You Should Go For CA as Job Opportunities Are Quite Better For CA Profession Both Nationally & Internationally as CA Institute Has Arrangeded Largest No. Of MOU's With Other Nations Among All Three Professional Bodies(i.e CA, CS , CWA).
Also Working Areas For CA's Are Quite Diversified & Practice Opportunities For CA's Are Avialable Every Where Unlike CS & CWA.
