Amir, how can u say that.... dear, when partnership converts into firm or company... it has to surrender its PAN....
And as i said, its through correction form only, where one has to attach xerox of pan card (original too, if required) with it

Hi,
You cannot surrender the Single PAN Number through NSDL.
You just write to your AO, he ONLY can do it.

Dear Dhiraj,
Do u mean, that if a firm gets converted into company it has to apply for change in PAN rather than new PAN???
I am asking this because I have not come across any such thing...
Ya if that is the procedure then what u r saying is correct, but Yogeswari will tell whether they r going for merger or not...

If firm is no longer in existence after dissolution, PAN is automatically invalid after completion of income tax assessment till its last day of existence and of course till all the dues are cleared. After this, number will not be used any further as the firm is dissolved. Therefore it is upto the department whether they wish to cancel th number or not. While completing assessment and recovery of tax dues, it is better to write to AO to cancel the PAN.
