If a person is providing a taxable service but has not crossed the exemption limit do he need to register ??

No registratin is required when untill your receipts are 9,00,000/-. If you are required to deposit service tax as a service receiver then you have get service tax registratio as a service receiver.

Registration under service tax is required when gross receips in a F.Y. exceeds 10,00,000/-.
However, application for registration sholud be filed as soon as gross receipts exceeds Rs. 9,00,000/-

Agree with the above members ..
But, if the business is a large volume business, i would suggest you to go for voluntary registration because large volume businesses have high chances of reaching the 9L limit (or 10L limit) just by procuring one single order. So its not advisable to wait till the turnover reaches 9L

But Registration is not so long Process
It Needs Maximum 1 Week .
