Not mandatory.

Yes , Mandatory to maintain books

Every person carrying on business or profession is required to maintain books of accounts if  his income from business or profession exceeds 1,20,000/-  or his total sales, turnover or gross receipts, as the case may be, in business or profession exceed 10,00,000/-  in any one of the three years immediately preceding the previous year.

Therefore in your case there is no need to maintain books of accounts.

But it is always benificial to maintain books of accounts. because maintaing books of accounts also help to analyse business position.

Hi,
