I AGREE WITH THE VIEW OF MR SUAJEET SHAU. I think that Supriya should contact the bank for new number. MOREOVER, during the year 2013-2014, the Income tax Dept is requiring the I F S C Code, instead of MICR CODE. But the some branches of the bank are not having I F S C Code, and in that case, in my view 0000000 should be noted in information.

You can file your return by opting for Refund by means of a Cheque instead of direct credit to your account. In this case, your 4 digit account number will not cause any hinderance and your return will get validated.

I raised a similar question to this and many other forums recently. I initiated a dialogue through email of feedback1 @ incometaxindia.gov.in and nothing came out of that. They dont even read what we are writing. Reply is always: as per ITR we need bank account 11 digits or more, and IFSC code.
How can a IT department force people to provide a bank account on ITR form is first question. Even developed nations keep the liberty to the taxpayer whether he wants refund or a cheque and if cheque is mentioned, the requirement of bank account and routing number does not exist.
Here there is no office where we or anyone can complain to tell that this is error. Who programmed the excel sheets, who gave them orders that everyone must provide bank account even if no refund or choice for cheque is made? Is India really under democracy?
Even if you indicate that you need a cheque mailed "in case there is refund" they still want a bank account? Why?
Many taxpayers have bank accounts in co-operative banks or post office and that is their main account. If that financial institution does not have CBS(Core Banking Services) then is the taxpayer responsible for that? If person is in village earning income more than 5 Lakh, should he go to district place, open one account which is CBS type and then file return? why is that step not mentioned in the ITR excels instructions?
And even CA lobby is not ready to take on the tax establishment CBDT and MoF on these pressing issues which are troublesome.

My account number is 10 digit and I faced the similar issue while filling returns. I checked with my bank and they mentioned that they provide only 10 digit account number. Later I checked my salary slip and it has a "N" infront of my account number which will make it to 11 digit.
Can I use my account number starting with N to fill the itr form.
