Weather Section 165 of company act 2013 that is maximum number of directorship is applicable to private company also.

A person can be a director in maximum 20 companies out of which public companies are maximum 10. Dorman companies are to be excluded while counting the number

A section 165 of Companies Act is for directors. Hence a person cannot hold directorship in more than 20 companies including all types of companies except dormant company. Further, a person cannot become a director in more than 10 public companies.
