One difference I can point out that makes ACCA "easier" is that it doesn't require you to do articleship while you are studying. You can do it before you are studying, after studying or during your studies.
ACCA introduced IFRS way before ICAI introduced it to the syllabus, moreover, it is a well respected qualification, which you can use to work across Europe and Mid.East Asia/China/HK/Singapore/Malaysia etc.
The exams are more towards the application than rote learning.

Compulsory Articleship in Indian CA is the Plus point of ICA. But when u compare the exam questions, quality of study materials and other guidence provided by the institutes ACCA is far ahead of Indian Institute. ACCA questions are more practical oriented. Moreover ACCA also requires practical experiance. But the difference is ACCA recognize experiance in all types of industry giving freedom for the student to decide their career. I wonder why CA institute do not recognize the experiance in oversea CA firms. Now India is going to adopt IFRS on 2011. So it should be adptive to that.

The above post by Deepu k, is a very good one. It highlights the advantages of chosin ACCA. possibly the best response i have seen so far.
from my part, i can say that ACCA is far more flexible than indian C.A ( thus som peopl clearly refer this as being easier, it aint true.), and ICAI making its C.A students to concentrate only on the audit side or the regulatory side like taxation etc, is a big disafvantage for those students, who try to add other qualifications like CFA, FRM etc etc. These qualifications unlike cma, cpa, cwa or cs (wer most of the subjects are related) requires a different approach, for instance the effort that u put in for cfa is clearly huge compared to ca.
I can clearly vouch for this, as i m doing both, so far so good.
After graduating from Loyola Colg, Chennai,,,, I opted for ACCA as i wanted to have a career in the fin services or investment banking sctr...... and i was confused on optin indian CA or ACCA.....but a lot of efforts put into queries, to people who actually hav don both acca and CA , hav made me to opt for ACCA.... evryon pointed to the fact that indian CA s not tat application orientd and ICAI is not friendly enough to students,to hav a career in I.B...or F.S...........besides such internationally certified courses are more uptodat.... eg: ACCA sylbs(new) includes Islamic Banking too.....
Besides ACCA is a globally accepted professional certification. thus for a person lookin for a career in I.B sec or BFS sector( ast mangt, valuations, M&A, advisory, portfolio mgmt etc etc), he/she should chos a globally accepted cours as this will help the student, to go work in developed markets lik U.K , U.S, Singapor etc.... wer the industry is already matured, and bring back tat knowledge to india wen our fin sectr becoms more deregulated.

Hi, I am interested to learn ACCA in the UK.
Can someone do public practise in India after completing ACCA ?
All I could find on this topic in google is :
"With the advent of globalization, development and integration of professional standards, negotiations are underway between Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and ACCA for reciprocal recognition for their membership for public practice in both countries after undergoing a proficiency course in Taxation and Corporate laws of the respective country. "
Is this reciprocal recognition in place now ? If so, How many papers should an ACCA person pass to do public practise in India?
