how to identify states and cities for intra and inter state purpose? ,
whether we need to go through full Indian map of states and their respective cities as far as exams are concerned.

In question paper, it will be mentioned whether the transaction is intra-state or inter-state. No need to go through maps etc. and waste your time.
Suppose, even if in extreme case, a city name is given in the question, then it shall be identifiable itself.
