if a person has deposited cheque through cheque payment and the challan no. 280 is placed then what is the way to get challan number required for return filing purpose?

i think u can request it from the bank where the tds has been deposited with quoting your chq.no., bank details, amt and date.

YES, CHALLAN NO. IS COMPULSORY FOR AT THE TIME OF SUBMIT INCOME TAX RETURN,
INCOME TAX DEPT & NSDL TAX CREDIT ONLY ON VALID CHALLAN. IF YOUR CHALLAN IS INCOMPLITE CHALLAN NO. THAN INCOME TAX DEPT. NO CREDIT IN TAX & CREATE TAX DEMAND.

Further if you have lost your challan 280 than you can contact your bank alongwith proof of payment and challan deposit. The Respective bank will give you the challan no.

If you are registered member of NSDL for View of Tax Credit than you can get the challan no. from Annual Tax Statement i.e. Form 26AS

You can get the challan no. from Nsdl site...
Registration is also not a big task.... Registration may take only 7 working days....
so in my opinion, not a big issue....

You have to pay 50Rs. to tin info ( NSDL) for getting full detail about the challan.

the bank person are saying they cannot provide data as they have forwarded for audit to their head quarters.. so will try nsdl
