pl tell me can a marble dealer who is purchasing marble or tiles from out of Maharashtra state say gujrat.
he has paid excise duty on marbles or tiles now can he claim set off for excise duty paid against vat collected on sales.
pl help me

NO
excise duty is indirect taxes and paid to govt of india, it can not be set off anywhere except excise or servicetax.

yes i do agree with Mr. sharma. value added tax collected under state Revenue and central excise collected under central revenue. however it cannot be setoff with CST also.
