my question is that can a proprietor do multiple business with same gst number such as they currently do in automotive battery trading and now they want trading in health products like hand sanitizer,mask etc.
Can I update the hsn details in the gst portal or separate Registeration will be taken for multiple business in one state??

No there is no need of separate registration. You can amend the business details and provide HSN of Néw business.
Separate registration not necessary but you have to include the products
Under one GSTN you can do number of businesses. So update the Goods details in your registration.
