CFA from ICFAI Tri...

Can anyone kindly tell me, what exactly was the ban about, which has been lifted by the Supreme Court in a case of ICAI v. ICFAI.

Also, being a CA Final student, can i join the 6-level CFA course(not to b confused with the the 9-level MS Finance from ICFAI) offered by ICFAI Tripura?

Please help me regarding this as i am gettin variour opinions on this...viz.

1. I cant join ICFAI as a CA student as thr is a ban.
2. I can join CFA from ICFAI Tripura as there is no ban on CA students joining ICFAI as well.
3. I can't join CFA from ICFAI Tripura as the ban is only for CA students... and members of ICAI are allowed to do CFA.
4. I can join CFA from ICFAI Tripura because there is no ban on CA members as well as CA students.

As u can guess, i am thoroughly confused.
PLS HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can persue CFA togather with CA as supreme court has lifted ban for CA student for CFA much time ago, CFA has vey good reputation so join it, I am persuing CFA from thaere i will appear for goup 1 exam in jan, I have joined ICWAI too this year

r u sure? bcoz today only, i saw a page where its written that CA students cant join ICFAI. u can find that message in another recent query abt CFA. I am interested to do CFA. But my confusion needs to be sorted out 1st. Pls Help... thanks.

Yes, You Can. There was some dispute b'ween ICAI & ICFAI. I don't know when it was sattled, but its for sure now its open for CA stydents. I've visited ICFAI barnch where I have been informed about it. But you can opt it only after your gaduation result is out. Right now I am in T.Y.Bcom along with Ca.Final. So, I can opt it only after I'm getting my T.Y. result.

Dear All, Don't you all feel distressed with the way Indian Institutes are behaving? I just don’t understand the logic behind banning courses in India. Are we afraid of better courses grappling our students? Instead, why don’t we raise our standard than banning globally recognized institutes like CFA, US? Ultimately who is the loser? It is not ICAI or ICFAI, Tripura but poor students... Aside to Amrita, I would suggest you to go for International course like FRM or CPA rather than CFA from Tripura. Since you are already pursuing CA, I don’t think CFA from Tripura University will add more value to your CA degree. Disclaimer: I am a Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary who is victim of this illogical policy. CA Amit K Khandelia.

The BAN on pursuing CFA by CA students as well as Ca's is removed by the High court order,
So techinicaly a CA student can pursue CFA.

BUT, i don't see the point in doing CFA as CA is a very good qualification for pursuing a career in Financial Analysis.

The best judge is the Industry, if u have a look at the qualifications of Fund managers of leading mutual funds in India, you'll know what i mean.

Most Fund mangers of Mutual Funds are CA's or MBA's from premier institutes like IIM.

CA's, when they want additional degrees/qualifications should look to get something better than what they already have, and not downgrade themselves.

Guys, you may go for one of the option given below which will give you an edge in financial markets - CFA (US), currently Banned FRM CMA

well friends... decide on wat u want to do first... CA is basicaly all about accounts and taxation.. CFA is about the stock markets... now tat's where the money lies..tat's where the MBA's are minting more than CA's...

CFA of ICFAI aint gonna do any good except for the cert. maybe..u can trust me... they r nowhere near the American CFA.. its totally different...u can chek the difference of syllabus online itself...its like ICWA of India and CIMA or CMA of US...there's a huge Gap...

lookin further, a professional course from India and Abroad is necessary...coz tomorrow everythin's gonna come in line together..all provisions...So first decide on wat u wanna do... most of our guys do CA,ICWA,CS,MBA..after all this, they'll also do M.com and then think of abroad...and then will take up a job based on the pay...so do wat u reallly want to do in life...

I agree with you that the CFA course from ICFAI is not at all comparable with CA. But, iif one wants to specialise in merchant banking/investment banking than i have a opinion that the CFA course + CA will surely help. I get pissed off when the MBA's(finance) are preferred over the CFA in the top broking houses where they certainly lack the technical knowledge as compared to the CFA's. waiting for your reply
