The answer is clearly Rs. 1000. The other shopkeeper has no bearing on the answer, he's been mentioned only to confuse the reader. Think of it as an equation : Profit of the lady = Loss of the shopkeeper. Since the lady made a profit of Rs. 1000, i.e 200 in goods and 800 in cash, therefore, the loss of the shopkeeper must also be Rs. 1000.

2000 :

 

    800 1st gven to lady

   1000 gvn to odr shop ownr

&  200 loss of value of goods sold

   2000 = Total

A Lady buys goods of Rs.200 & Pays a Rs.1000 note to shopkeeper , he gets the change from the Next shop & & keeps Rs.200 for himself  & Returns Rs.800 to the lady ..

After some time, The next shop owner Returns the Rs.1000 note Saying that its " Duplicate" & Takes the money Back ..

Now the Question is How much Loss did the shpokeeper Suffer ?

The actual loss is Rs 1200 less the projected profit.

The Total Loss is Rs. 2000/- : that is Rs. 800 given back to lady+Rs. 200 the value of goods given+Rs. 1000 return back to the Neighbour owner

the answer is 1000/- only.

forget about everything....finally he has ended with a counterfeit note of Rs.1000/- and that is the loss to him. He has nothing to owe others.

The correct answer is INR 2000 INR 1000 Loss paid to another shopkeeper INR 800 Loss paid to Woman INR 200 Loss of goods sold

Rs.1000/- is total loss to shopkeeper

Rs.200 of goods & Rs.800 which has been returned to the lady.........
