Even though MNC R&D centres and R&D service providers contribute over $11 billion dollars in export revenue, R&D in India doesn't get the requisite visibility.
India has over 650 MNC R&D centres and 150 R&D service providers.
In spite of low visibility and lack of government recognition and support, the industry grew over 20% a year over the last several years.
Relatively lower-cost talent, movement of talent from the US to India and lack of competing low-cost locations helped propel the growth.
However, the Chinese government has recognised the need for R&D investments and has started providing deep incentives to MNCs to set up their centres in China.
