Can a director who retired earlier be reappointed

Hi

i would like to know if a director retired from a company and who did not wish for reappointment during his rotation  in  the year 2010 . can he be considered now for taking him again as a director in 2018 of the same company or will he be disqualified since he did not wish for reappointment in the previous years.
