Both the books are good. Now the biggest question before you is, which book do I choose. Please bear in mind, time is very critical for you to decide, whether you can cover the portions on time. Also, DT is not the only paper, you need to give adequate time for other papers too.

As some of the learned members have already mentioned Vinod Gupta would be time consuming if you are appearing in November 2015 Examination and you may fall short in completing your portions.

Dr. Vinod K Singhania can be best bet, to cover your portions, thats my view.

I would like to say in short that books of VG Sir is best for detailed knowledge of Direct Tax

Not only this much you can also go for his classes, which can definitely help you in getting exemption - for much knowledge you just need to visit their website VG learning destination.

Or if I say from my personal experience you can also try the Summary by CA Vinod Gupta Sir.

You must try CA Vinod Gupta Sir's book for CA Final DT. Because when it comes to DT, VG sir is a pinnacle. His books are so great that even if you try to study on your own, you will conveniently understand every single term and there are just enough practical questions that can make you an expert in taxation.

VG sir doesn't believe in passing exams only, he has written his books with a goal that whoever reads them for CA Final will not only pass exams but will also become a competent CA with deep knowledge of the subject. Nowadays, many teachers are selling pendrive lectures and compiler books which are a total waste and offer so little information when compared to VG sir's textbooks that cover every topic from the old and new syllabus and are updated as per the latest amendments. So if you actually want to score an exemption and become a competent CA, I'd advise you to go for VG sir's book and study hard.
