Vinod Gupta's books are very lengthy with lot of additional reading material and examples which are of great help if you are willing to give it 2-3 months to study and make notes for yourself.
Otherwise it's a un-necessary burden , when you have 7 other subjects to study equally well.
Get T.N manoharan's book or paduka, which are more "to-the" point.

Dear Ragini
If you have enough time and you want to fathom the subject and not just want to study it just for exams viewpoint, than go for Vinod Gupta or else if you have a limited amount of time and you just want to clear the exams then go for T.N Manoharan.
Also remember that in DT case laws applicable for your attempt are very necessary, as they may cover up Marks between 16-32(16 marks directly and rest as a part of questions).
Best luck for future.

Hi Ragini,
I attended satellite lectures of Vinog Gupta for the May 2015 exams. We were provided with an entire set of VG books and were taught from there. However, I wouldnt recommend them for self study when your exam is 3 months away. If you have anywhere between 4-6 months in hand, Vinod Gupta's modules are very helpful. However, with lesser time, it becomes way too lenghty and cumbersome.
All said and done, his modules and teaching helped me pass.

If you have ample time you need to lay hand on Vinod Gupta's book for scoring examplary marks in direct tax paper.
Otherwise, you can opt for T N Manohar sirs book.

I have a related question :
I want a book only for problem solving as Manoharan does not cover many examples. Also there is a limitation of summary book as their main focus is summarizing theory so there are not many illustrations. However, I had used Singhania at inter level so I know its content, does anyone know if even for final year it has multiple illustrations and problems.

Yes, Dr. Vinod K Singhania, would be useful if you have already used it at intermediate level. It contains lots of solved illustrations. At the end of the day, it is understanding the law with conceptual clarity and presenting your paper to impress the examiner. |
So Sir which one will be better Singhania....or Vinod Gupta??

In Summary
If you have about 8 months or more, go for VG
If you have done classes for DT, go for summary of Bangar and Practise Manual
If you have little time you go for Manoharan (although I personally do not recommend it but what choice do you have other than institute's module)
For me personallly Vinod Singhania is preferable since, I just need a lot of illustrations to patch up my knowledge gaps.

Yes..Manoharan is to the point for exam purposes. No need to refer other detailed books.
