Certified Financial Planner (CFP) is a worldwide recognized certification in the area of financial planning. It comprises roughly 213,000 CFP professionals and is well known in 27 territories worldwide.

CFP Course Details

You need to complete the CFP certification before taking the exam that you will have to prepare for and clear these exams for. This course has four levels, which are:

  • CFPC Investment Planning Specialist
  • CFPC Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist
  • FPSB Risk and Estate Planning Specialist
  • FPSB Integrated Financial Planning Course

Types of CFP courses

The CFP certification course has a requirement that you have to get some type of practical experience, which you can have in 2 ways:

  1. Regular Pathway
  2. Fast Track Pathway

Regular Pathway

Bachelor students can apply for CFP through this pathway. The candidate will need to pass all four NSE tests and they can be qualified for the fifth one i.e., Advanced Financial Planning.

Fast Track Pathway

A candidate with relevant practical experience will only need to pass the fifth exam, i.e., Advanced Financial Planning to get CFP certification.

Eligibility criteria

  • For the Regular Pathway- The candidate should have passed class 12 and cleared all five exams that cover six modules.
  • For the Fast Track Pathway- The candidate should have cleared the CA intermediate level, PhD, CFA and ICWA among others.

How to apply for CFP certification

Candidates should follow these steps to apply for the CFP certification:

  • The initial CFP certification can only be applied after you clear the exams and have the required practical experience.
  • If the criteria are met, fill out the CFP certification application carefully and upload all the documents that are necessary as specified.
  • The documents that you have uploaded will be verified by FPSB and a payment link will be sent to you at the email address so that you can make the payment.
  • Once you do, it will again be verified by FPSB and you will get a digital copy of your CFP certificate at the same email address that you will receive the payment link on.
