Zomato Hit with Rs 17.7 Crore GST Demand Order

Online food delivery platform Zomato has received a GST demand order totaling Rs 17.7 crore from the Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, West Bengal. The order, issued on Tuesday, pertains to the non-payment of GST on delivery charges for the period between April 2021 and March 2022. It includes a GST amount of Rs 11.12 crore, interest of Rs 5.46 crore, and a penalty of Rs 1.11 crore.

n a regulatory filing, Zomato stated, "We believe that we have a strong case on merits and the Company will be filing an appeal against the order before the appropriate authority."

Zomato further mentioned that it had responded to the show cause notice with supporting documents and judicial precedents, which were not considered by the authorities while passing the order. The company remains confident in its position and does not foresee any financial impact from the demand.

This is not the first time Zomato has come across some issues regarding taxes since it has been receiving GST demand orders from different authorities in the recent past months.
