The telecommunications giant stated that the penalty is associated with an alleged erroneous transition of CENVAT credit into the GST regime.

The company, facing financial challenges, expressed its disagreement with the order and affirmed its intent to pursue corrective measures. Vodafone Idea, in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), detailed the contravention and disclosed the receipt of the order on January 3, 2024.

The penalty, amounting to Rs 10,76,56,733, adds to the woes of the telecom operator, prompting it to take decisive action. In its official statement, Vodafone Idea stated, "The company does not agree with the order and will take appropriate action(s) for rectification/reversal of the same."

This development raises questions about the complexities and challenges faced by businesses in adapting to the GST regime, with Vodafone Idea firmly asserting its position and determination to contest the penalty imposed. As the telecom industry navigates regulatory landscapes, VIL's response to this order will be closely monitored for potential implications on the broader sector.
