One person has been arrested for ₹8.7 crore GST evasion in Gujarat. The accused, Devang Nathwani, is the key person handling the affairs of Eagle Marketing, which is involved in trading of crude chemicals. The SGST department raided Eagle Marketing's business premises in Rajkot and a godown at Aslali in Ahmedabad on August 11, 2023. During the raid, the officials found that the company had evaded GST of ₹8.7 crore by raising fraudulent invoices. Nathwani was arrested on August 12, 2023, and produced in court the same day. He was remanded in custody till August 14, 2023.
The SGST department has also initiated action against other persons involved in the GST evasion racket. The department has issued notices to 12 other persons, including the directors of Eagle Marketing. The department is also investigating the role of other companies that have been allegedly involved in the racket.
This is the latest in a series of arrests made by the SGST department in Gujarat for GST evasion. In July 2023, the department arrested two persons for evading GST of ₹10 crore. In June 2023, the department arrested three persons for evading GST of ₹12 crore.
The SGST department is taking a tough stance against GST evasion. The department is conducting regular raids and investigations to detect and punish GST evaders. The department is also working to strengthen its IT systems to make it more difficult for evaders to escape detection.
The arrest of Devang Nathwani is a warning to other GST evaders that they will be caught and punished. The SGST department is committed to ensuring that everyone pays their fair share of GST.
