PIL filed in SC seeking stay on Opt-Out Option by ICAI

Last updated: 24 June 2020

A PIL has been filed by Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava in Supreme Court on behalf of the India Wide Parents Association seeking to put stay on Opt-Out Scheme. Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava in his tweet dt 23/06/2020 said, "On behalf of “India Wide Parents Association”, today I have filed a Petition in Supreme Court, seeking:

-More Exam Centres

-Stay on “Opt-Out” scheme

-More precautions from Corona

-For 4.67 lakh CA students, who are slated to appear in CA Exams between 29th July to 16th August"

The CA Exams were scheduled to happen in May this year, but due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the exams were first postponed to June and later to July. However, due to the exponential rise in the COVID cases students all over the country were demanding to cancel the exams/postpone them to November. Some students were also of the opinion that exams should be held. In regard to this ICAI came out with an announcement and gave an option to the students to Opt-Out from July 2020 exams, meaning exams will currently be held as scheduled but those who don't wish to appear can give their exams in November.
