The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on January 2, 2009, had approved "National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology" (NME-ICT), with an outlay of Rs.4612 Crore for the benefit of students of higher education. Under NME-ICT programme, besides e-content being developed in a number of subjects and making it available free of cost to learners through Fibre Optics and internet connectivity at universities and colleges, the Govt., has ensured the content also reaches student's homes and has therefore approved delivery of educational content through launch of 1000 DTH channels on 24X7 basis for every subject, for every class, in various languages to the extent possible.
These channels will deliver structured lectures in almost all the subjects/ disciplines, which shall be delivered mostly live, by teachers.The learners can have live interaction during every hour with the teachers present in the studio,by asking questions from anywhere in the country, via video conferencing (Skype/AVIEW etc), mobile, land line, SMS, e-mail, etc, and seek instantaneous answers from the teachers. This sets in operation of a true countrywide classroom programmes.
The Ministry of HRD, recognising the qualitative work being done by the ICAI , its contribution in the area of educational activities, its strength in terms of having a strong resource base for delivering the same is signing an MoU today with ICAI on sharing the DTH Platform.
The MoU would be signed by CA.K.Raghu, President ICAI and Shri Praveen Prakash, Mission Director, NMEICT,Ministry of HRD.
Shri. M. Mangapati Pallam Raju, Hon'ble Minister HRD would be presiding over the signing-in ceremony .

The entire project is being envisaged by Government of India to propagate education throughout country and the ICAI shall be responsible to provide the educational content so as to run the channel live for 8 hours.Such an arrangement will ensure that any person having a simple set up box would be able to receive the channel sitting at home. As the name of the project suggests,it is direct to home facility with an interactive response available to the students from the faculty. This initiative will ensure the delivery of classes and bring about uniformity in education. ICAI would ensure to make this venture a success.
This model will later be replicated by the Ministry of HRD for many other educational institutions also to impart education in social-sciences, humanities and other subject as well.
