The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has officially constituted an Election Tribunal to resolve disputes arising from the Council elections of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held in December 2024. The notification was published in the Gazette of India on April 17, 2025.

Acting under the powers granted by Section 10B(1) of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, and Rule 3 of the Chartered Accountants (Election Tribunal) Rules, 2006, the Central Government has established the Tribunal with immediate effect.
The three-member Tribunal will be responsible for adjudicating disputes under Section 10A of the Chartered Accountants Act in relation to the ICAI Council elections. The Tribunal comprises the following officials:
- Ms. Anju Rathi Rana - Presiding Officer and Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice
- Ms. S Meenakshi - Member and Official Liquidator, Ministry of Corporate Affairs
- Shri Sanjay Shorey - Member and Director General of Corporate Affairs
This move reinforces the government's commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness, and accountability in the electoral processes of statutory professional bodies like ICAI.
The ICAI, being a premier accounting body under the jurisdiction of the MCA, plays a vital role in upholding the integrity of the chartered accountancy profession in India. The formation of the Tribunal underscores the importance of a robust grievance redressal mechanism for its members.
The notification [G.S.R. 238(E)] will be effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
