Madurai FMCG taders arrested for Rs 75 crore GST evasion

Three traders of FMCG were arrested in Madurai for evasion of Rs 75 crore in GST. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) conducted raids on the premises of the three traders on May 11, 2023. The raids revealed that the traders had been evading GST by not issuing proper invoices and by under-reporting their sales.

The three traders have been identified as M.R. Murugan, M.K. Suresh Kumar and M.R. Suresh. They are all residents of Madurai and are involved in the wholesale and retail trade of FMCG products.

The DGGI has seized incriminating documents and evidence from the premises of the three traders. The evidence includes computers, hard disks, mobile phones and cash.

The three traders have been arrested and produced before the court. They have been remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.

The DGGI has said that it is committed to tracking down and prosecuting those who evade GST. The DGGI has also appealed to taxpayers to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the DGGI.
