Income Tax Officials Prioritize Grievance Redressal, Urge Timely Tax Payments for Societal Development

In a recent outreach program for "Advance Tax Payers," Income Tax officials in Madurai emphasized their commitment to swiftly addressing genuine grievances while urging chartered accountants (CAs) to encourage clients to pay taxes on time. The event organized by Non-Corporate Range I Madurai shed light on the importance of tax compliance and its role in societal development.

Joint Commissioner V. Sreedevi underscored the active engagement of officials at various levels in addressing taxpayer concerns promptly. She appealed to CAs to advocate for timely tax payments, emphasizing that it not only prevents notices and interest payments for taxpayers but also contributes to the overall development of society.

Sreedevi highlighted the positive impact of sustained monitoring and campaigns, noting that the government's efforts had yielded desired results in tax collections. She stressed that the funds collected through taxes play a crucial role in infrastructure development, including the construction of roads and other essential amenities.

Providing insights into the tax landscape in Madurai, Sreedevi revealed that there were approximately 8,500 corporate assessees, 9.5 lakh assessees under non-corporate range I, and an additional 3.5 lakh assessees in non-corporate range II. These figures encompassed areas such as Madurai, Karaikudi, Ramanathapuram, Theni, Dindigul, and others.

Highlighting the positive trend, the senior officer shared that gross Income Tax collections in Madurai had increased by an impressive 13%. She sought the support of CAs in building a robust economy, emphasizing their pivotal role in ensuring compliance and contributing to economic growth.

Deputy Commissioner S. Santa Soruban echoed the commitment to grievance redressal, emphasizing that it held the highest priority for the department. He expressed appreciation for the role played by CAs as catalysts in the taxation process and assured that any issues within the system would be rectified, with the involvement of senior officers.

In conclusion, the event showcased the collaborative efforts of Income Tax officials and chartered accountants in fostering a tax-compliant environment. The emphasis on timely tax payments and effective grievance redressal reflects a commitment to both individual taxpayers and the broader societal well-being.
