In a move aimed at enhancing convenience for taxpayers, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued a new advisory, dated January 19, 2023, introducing additional payment options for those registered under GST. The advisory outlines the inclusion of Credit Card (CC), Debit Card (DC), and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) under the e-payment umbrella, expanding the previously exclusive reliance on net-banking.
Under the newly introduced facilities, taxpayers can now make payments using Cards and UPI, diversifying the available methods. The Cards facility encompasses Credit Cards (Mastercard, Visa, RuPay, and Diners - CC only) and Debit Cards issued by any Indian bank.
Remarkably, this advisory breaks new ground by enabling payment through CC/DC/UPI via Kotak Mahindra Bank, irrespective of the issuing bank of the Credit or Debit Card. While the integration process with other banks is underway, the current availability extends to 10 states, with the expectation that the remaining states and Union Territories will soon join the expanded payment network.
This development is anticipated to streamline the payment process for GST-registered taxpayers, offering them flexibility and choice in managing their financial transactions. Stay tuned for further updates as more states and Union Territories integrate into this enhanced payment ecosystem.
