In a shocking case of corruption, the Organised Crime Division of the police recovered ₹69 lakh in cash and 306 grams of gold from four GST officials arrested earlier in September for allegedly kidnapping and extorting ₹1.5 crore from businessman Keshav Tak. The officials - Abhishek, Superintendent of Central Tax, South Commissionerate, along with senior intelligence officers Manoj Saini, Nagesh Babu, and intelligence officer Sonali Sahay are accused of conducting illegal raids and seizing valuables from Tak, while also holding him and three others hostage on August 30.
Additionally, two other individuals, Mukesh Jain and Prakash Jain, were arrested in connection with the case. Mukesh, a friend of the businessman, was initially believed to be a victim, but the investigation revealed that he and Prakash allegedly assisted the GST officials in the extortion.
One of the accused admitted to purchasing a 306-gram gold brick with the extorted money. Based on this information, the police seized ₹57 lakh in cash and froze an additional ₹12.3 lakh deposited in bank accounts by the informants.
On September 23, one of the arrested GST officials, along with Mukesh and Prakash, was remanded to judicial custody as the investigation into this high-profile extortion case continues.
