A 42-year-old man has been arrested in Delhi for cheating a jeweller of Rs 6 crore by posing as a GST inspector. The accused, Sushil Kumar, along with his accomplices, intercepted the jeweller's driver and employee who were transporting 10 kg of gold from Delhi to Ludhiana. They impersonated GST inspectors and took away the gold.
The police arrested Sushil Kumar from Punjab on Tuesday. He has been charged with cheating, impersonation, and criminal intimidation. The police are still looking for his accomplices.
Sushil Kumar is a regular at the GST office and had gained some knowledge of its workings. He had known the jeweller's employee, Rajan Bawa, for two years. They planned the heist together.
The police have recovered eight gold plates worth around Rs 4.8 crore from Sushil Kumar's home. Efforts are underway to nab Bawa and the other accused.
This is a reminder to all businesses to be careful when dealing with people who claim to be government officials. Always ask for identification and verify their credentials before handing over any money or goods.
