Hyderabad's Central Crime Station (CCS) has filed a case against former Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and two senior commercial tax officers for alleged GST violations, with tax evasion reportedly exceeding Rs 1,000 crores.
Allegations and Forensic Report
According to investigating officers, a forensic report revealed unauthorized transfer of proprietary data from the commercial tax department to a third party. The FIR also names Sobhan Kumar, an IIT Hyderabad professor, and Pilanto Technologies Pvt Ltd.
On July 26, K Ravi Kanuri, Joint Commissioner (CT) at the Central Computer Wing in Nampally, lodged a complaint about the alleged GST fraud. Preliminary investigations into 11 cases, which were masked by IIT Hyderabad, uncovered over Rs 400 crore in evasion.

The allegations against former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and the other officials include:
- Unauthorized Data Transfer: Providing access to the commercial tax department’s proprietary data to a third party.
- Data Masking: Concealing taxpayer data.
- IGST Discrepancies: Ignoring discrepancies in Integrated GST (IGST), resulting in significant revenue losses.
The case highlights serious concerns about compliance and transparency in the handling of GST-related data and tax evasion practices. The CCS investigation continues as officials work to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud.
