The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body set up in 1949 by an Act of Parliament to regulate the Profession of Chartered Accountancy in India. Created through a legislative fiat, ICAI continues its steadfast march to uphold the virtues of accountability, integrity and transparency in every sphere of country's economic system.
Every year, the ICAI organizes Annual Convocation to award certificates of membership to new members and facilitate rank holders of the CA examinations. The Convocation for Northern Region of ICAI was organized today i.e. on August 30, 2019 at New Delhi. Shri Om Birla, Hon'ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha was the ‘Chief Guest' at the function. In other 4 regions i.e. East, West, Central & South, the Convocation ceremony would be organised on August 31st & September 1, 2019.

Addressing the newly qualified budding professionals, Chief Guest Shri Om Birla said 'I welcome you all to this noble profession wherein you can contribute whole heartedly to the economic development of this nation. The Competition is very high in this profession and it requires hard work & dedication to achieve it. Let's celebrate this day as Siddhi Diwas, for celebrating the hard work you have put in.'
Shri Birla further added 'It is a matter of great pride that in the 70 years of ICAI's existence, the CA examinations have been conducted with transparency & integrity.'

Started in 1949 with about 1700 members, ICAI is a premier accounting body in the country and the second largest accounting body in the world with over 3 lakh members. ICAI has 5 Regional Councils and 164 branches all across the country with over 7.20 lakh students. In addition, it has also set up 34 chapters outside India and an overseas office in Dubai.

At New Delhi, 1420 members were conferred with Membership Certificate and in total around 7000 members would be conferred with Certificates in the ceremony being organised all across the country. The ICAI conducts Convocation twice every year for award of Certificate of Membership to newly enrolled Members as bonhomie to the CA fraternity. The Convocation is intended to bring young members of the profession under the umbrella of the fraternity of Chartered Accountants and foster a sense of belongingness to the profession and the Institute.
CA. Atul Kumar Gupta , Vice-President, ICAI addressing the participants said ' Each one of you is going to be a Brand ambassador of this esteemed profession which has a legacy of 70 glorious years. You must take a pledge to take the glory of this profession to newer heights'.
Over the years, the role of ICAI has evolved and expanded to meet changing needs and new challenges. Today, ICAI has grown manifold and has created a vast pool of Chartered Accountants, essential for practically every sphere of the country's economy, industry, business and good governance. Comprehensive and rigorous training and a very tough and high standard examination ensures that only those people who possess very high level of knowledge, intelligence, experience and command on the subjects covered by Chartered Accountancy are able to qualify as Chartered Accountant. The making of a CA ensures a very deep-rooted knowledge, coupled with a commitment to work hard.
