The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially filed a chargesheet against five individuals, including the former Principal Commissioner of Income Tax for Patna and Dhanbad, in connection with an alleged Rs 10 lakh bribery case. The chargesheet, filed on October 25, names the ex-commissioner alongside four private individuals, all of whom are implicated in a scheme where bribes were allegedly solicited from various income tax assessees to provide them with unlawful benefits.
According to the CBI's official release, a case was initially registered on August 26 following allegations that the commissioner was abusing his position by demanding illegal gratification. "Several conduits were reportedly working on behalf of the Principal Commissioner to facilitate these transactions," the CBI stated.
A sting operation conducted on August 26 led to the interception of the accused along with a private individual at the Income Tax office in Ayakar Bhavan, Patna, as they allegedly attempted to complete a transaction involving the bribe amount. The CBI subsequently detained them and apprehended three additional suspects linked to the case. Further investigations have revealed the extensive network through which the accused principal commissioner allegedly carried out these corrupt practices.
