Kollam: Around 100 tax evasion case files have gone missing from the Punalur GST office in Kollam

Reportedly, the lost files are those pertaining to the cases registered by the GST Intelligence and surveillance squads in Aryankavu checkposts and others. Even after lodging police complaints and initiating a department-level probe, no trace of the lost files has been found so far.

The reports about the missing files surfaced after the transfer of a Punalur intelligence officer, a year ago. He had informed the matter to joint commissioner.

Following this, a complaint was lodged with the Punalur police as directed by the joint commissioner. Though a department-level probe was initiated, no further action was taken.

According to GST rules, tax and fine should be imposed if evasions are noticed during squad inspections. Those who face this action should pay the amount online

As per reports, there are around 100 such files that have gone missing, causing a loss of lakhs of money to the government.
